For whatever reason I didn't need to make a new cat file. Just disabling checking of signed drivers was enough. The installation was succesful first time round, no idea why. (Also what a coincidence that we visited this old website at nearly the same time). ok it will work if you make a new cat file with the microsoft inf2cat tool and disable checking of singned driver
on newer version of windows installation fails with wrong hash in cat file eg win10 64bit
